Ride Data

Total distance ridden so far: 1700km
Top speed (down hill): up to about 80km/h (see more details above)

The velomobile is very stable at high speeds. I had to replace my first set of brake pads on the disc brakes at 1300km. This is most likely due to the higher speeds with the motor assist and extra weight of the batteries.

Hello,
Came across Your Yellow Velo sites through the VACC newsletter.

1) How are you able to measure the speed and distance?

2)Is it not possible to buy a recumbent bike and then get a "fiberglass raincoat" separately?

3) Doesn't it get hot pedaling inside with no fresh air to hit your body?

4) I saw the news youtube clip. Do you not lock your bike when you leave it to enter the mall?

5a) On a rainy day, do you use an umbrella to get to your parked velo?
b) Does it matter if the insides get wet? How will the motor react?
c) Are there holes to let the water out?

Hello Bernhard! I saw you climbing up Woodward Hill on King George this morning as I was driving (car today for me, unfortunately--usually I'm on my bike). I assume you measure speed/distance with a velocomputer of some sort. I would be interested to know what the average speed is, in addition to the top speed. I agree with jc that a much cheaper bike and a raincoat would have allowed you to break even a lot sooner. But I have had no problems regularly getting wet when I have commuted 20 km round trip to work and back for the past 1 1/2 years. Well, ask me on a November evening how much I enjoy being soaked and freezing, and I might change my tune and find the velomobile more attractive.

Keep on spinning!
